What have you been doing today?

Today I have been reading reports and publications to understand the initiatives being implemented across Norfolk & Suffolk from our local Public Health, and Health & Social Care providers. Before heading out on the road to attend a Marmot Place engagement event in West Norfolk.

Is that a typical day for you?

As I am only 3 weeks into my role, my initial focus is on understanding what is already happening across the counties to address the effects of health inequalities. I like to call it ‘mapping the landscape’. Once I understand this, I can then decide how best to implement Creative Health initiatives.

When did you start working with culture, health and wellbeing, and how?

I initially trained in Fashion and Textiles, so have come from arts and culture background, before my practice developed into socially engaged arts over 8 years ago. I became disillusioned with producing artwork for consumption and instead wanted to share the benefits of cultural engagement for health and wellbeing.

What was the last project you came across that inspired you?

This is a tricky question as there is so much good work happening across the Creative Health landscape. I would have to say the work of Playful Anywhere (https://www.playfulanywhere.fun/) whom I recently discovered via Linked In. They use Playfulness as a true trojan for connection, community and creativity and as a small CIC they deliver big impact.

What is your job title?
Creative Health & Equity Lead for Norfolk & Suffolk

What does your role entail?
In partnership with the Culture Health and Wellbeing Alliance (CHWA), Suffolk County Council and Suffolk Artlink, my role is an agile and evolving role to ensure Creative Health is valued and developed equitably, including infrastructural and strategic support, across Norfolk & Suffolk.

What’s your background? /where are you from?

Having previously worked for over 8 years as a freelance Creative Health practitioner across the counties of Norfolk and Suffolk, I bring direct experience of working within the sector and local knowledge of place. Having most recently been awarded a Masters in Medical and Health Humanities specialising in Creative Health, I bring a plethora of knowledge of initiatives within this growing sector.

What’s the best thing about working for CHWA?

Having previously worked independently, I'm most excited about rejoining a team and having support from a passionate team of people, working hard to provide opportunities for people to rediscover their creative talents and ultimately improve their health as a result.

What’s something your passionate about? Interests/hobbies

I love to explore and am happiest near water, particularly the amazing coastline we have on our doorstep. I can often be found walking the coastal paths, whatever the weather!
