We’re looking for up to 20 volunteers for our upcoming conference, Common Ground, on 7-9 October at Barnsley Civic. You’ll be part of a friendly team of who will help CHWA deliver a smooth running, welcoming event. It’s a great chance to gain events experience and to meet others working in creative health.
We warmly encourage proposals from freelance or low-income creative practitioners working across arts, health and education settings, and those who are often excluded from access, visibility and leadership within the cultural and health sectors. This can include people of diverse racial and cultural heritages, LGBTQ+ communities, Deaf, disabled and neurodivergent people, people living with long-term health conditions, and younger people.
You must be at least 18 years of age and be based within 25 miles of Barnsley. You can volunteer on 1 or more of the conference days, during the following times (in 4 hour slots):
Wednesday 7 October: 12:00 – 17:30 (with option to attend evening meal)
Thursday 8 October: 08:30 – 17:00 (refreshments and lunch provided)
Friday 9 October: 08:30 – 13:00 (refreshments provided)
Adequate breaks will be provided and there is a quiet space available.
You will also be asked to attend a 1-hour online induction on Monday 21 September at 1:30, to meet other volunteers and the CHWA team, and to ask any questions. A briefing will take place at the start of each day of the conference, which you will be expected to attend.
Duties may include:
- Greeting delegates at train/bus station; helping them to Barnsley Civic and between session spaces
- Signposting venue spaces and helping with requests
- Supporting facilitators during workshops (indoor and outdoor) and artist residency, and helping to set up and clear up
- Supporting quiet spaces
- Reporting any emerging support needs to CHWA team
- Helping delegates to feel connected and welcome, answering questions and offering warm, helpful interactions
Previous experience is not required but let us know if you have a particular interest in creative health, and if you have first aid and/or mental health first aid training. You may also highlight other skills or preferences in your application and tell us about any access needs or requirements.
Volunteers will receive:
- One free ticket to the conference (for all 3 days or any combination), including food and refreshments as part of the catering offer
- Travel costs reimbursed within 25 miles of Barnsley
- Valuable experience supporting events, and a chance to develop communication and interpersonal skills
